Horton, NPS Diesel power quieter Genpower rental sets
June 24, 2019
Serving the construction industry in the densely-populated Netherlands, rental generator set supplier Genpower Aggregatten BV faces the constant challenge of limiting noise.
With that in mind, the company turned to a once-unlikely source for its newest „Cleanergy“ line of generator sets. Engine supplier NPS Diesel suggested a Horton variable-speed fan drive, and together they provided Genpower with a solution that offered European end users not only noise reduction but also fuel savings and longer maintenance intervals.
„The introduction of the variable-speed fan drive was really a game changer in the Dutch gen-set market,“ Matthias Seuffert, Horton’s European off-highway sales manager, told Diesel Progress International. “Besides noise reduction, the customer also liked the fuel savings it offered and lastly it led to longer maintenance intervals as the engine is running at optimized temperatures, which is an additional personnel savings.”
Variable-speed fan drives have long been used in heavy-duty trucks and agricultural equipment, but Horton recently has been on the leading edge of implementing them in stationary applications such as generator sets.
Diesel Progress International featured the project, which implemented Horton’s VS227 fan drive coupled with its MS8 molded fan in the magazine’s May-June 2019 issue (pages 44-45).
