Known as “la perla del norte,” or the pearl of the north, Antofagasta, Chile sits adjacent to one of the world’s richest mining regions. Representatives from Horton ventured there to showcase some of its latest innovations and join the conversation about the mining industry at Exponor 2019.

Detroit S.A.’s display included an MTU 16V 4000 engine with a Horton RCV1000 fan drive and HTEC fan, both of which are designed for oversized, heavy-duty applications required in the extraction business. Horton brought a large HTEC of its own and an RCV2000 drive, and spoke with other leaders in the mining space about the latest products, services, technology, advancements and improvements offered to the global market.

The biannual, outdoor event on the edge of the Atacama Desert featured an array of Horton products and applications, including the BELAZ 75581 mine haul truck. Running at optimal engine temperatures thanks in part to the Horton metal fan inside, the 75581 can carry almost 90 metric tons of rock in even the harshest conditions.
